lets talk story

KELLYS COVE / SF

Between the Pier (torn down 1967) and the Cliffhouse at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, resides a small patch of sand we call Kellys Cove. From the late 40's through today, surfers have braved these frigid conditions to surf perfect A-frame peaks and survive to tell stories from the rapture of the deep. We honor those who have lived and died with these memories emblazoned in their hearts and minds. Each year, we build a fire and toss names of our brothers and sisters who have passed on to that great heavenly surf spot in the sky.

We welcome you to surf through our store and catch a few wave articles that will remind you of this epic moment in time we all shared, and those who wish to share as a symbol of being a fringe dweller of the concrete jungle we call city life.

2025 KELLYS COVE REUNION / GREAT HIGHWAY

THE GREAT HIGHWAY MEMORIAL

San Francisco has permanently closed a 2-mile section of the
Great Highway, specifically the Upper Great Highway between Lincoln Way and
Sloat Boulevard, to vehicle traffic as of March 2025. This closure is part of a
plan to convert the area into Sunset Dunes, San Francisco's newest park,
which is California's largest pedestrianization project. The decision was
approved by voters via Proposition K and is supported by
the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department,
though it has faced some opposition from residents.

OCEAN BEACH MEMORIES

Closing the Great Highway along the coast of Ocean Beach marks another change
for the beach community and the surfers who have cherished this stretch of beach
from Lincoln Blvd. to Sloat Blvd. One by one, we watched the demise from Fleishhacker Pool, Sutro Baths, the Pier, the Family Dog, Playland at the Beach, to the Great Highway, signaling that time is a changing, and we were fortunate to be there to witness it all. The Great Highway may be lost, but never forgotten.

2025 KC DESIGN / BACK LOGO

2025 KC DESIGN / FRONT LOGO

This year's reunion design was inspired by the vintage psychedelic lettering by Rick Griffin
and funky art style of Robert Crumb,
and the flowering buds from my cartoon Acapulco Gold.
John Lamb offered his surf woody, with the rowdy misfits from Kellys Cove,
doing wheelies down the Great Highway on Acid.
